The Book of Acts records the birth and expansion of the New Testament Church through the power of the Holy Spirit. Written by Luke as a continuation of his Gospel, Acts begins with the ascension of Jesus and traces the spread of the Gospel from Jerusalem to Rome, fulfilling Christ's commission that His followers would be His witnesses "in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth" (Acts 1:8, NKJV).
Throughout the book, we see the Holy Spirit empowering ordinary believers to boldly proclaim the risen Christ. The apostles preach, churches are established, miracles confirm the message, and the Gospel advances despite persecution, opposition, imprisonment, and hardship.
Acts highlights key figures such as Peter, Stephen, Philip, Barnabas, and especially Paul, whose dramatic conversion and missionary journeys help carry the message of Jesus throughout the Roman world. Along the way, the book demonstrates that salvation is found in Jesus Christ alone and that the Gospel is for all people—Jew and Gentile alike.
More than a history of the early Church, Acts is a testimony to the continuing work of the risen Christ through His people. The book closes with Paul preaching the Gospel in Rome, but the story itself remains unfinished, reminding believers that the mission of making disciples continues until Christ returns.
